ROTTA is the student association for business administration students at Lapland University of Applied Sciences, Rovaniemi campus. We organise events, represent BBA students in matters concerning their studies, and make sure student life is more than just lectures.

Our full name is Rovaniemen Tradenomiopiskelijat ROTTA ry. We are a local association of Tradenomiopiskelijat, the national organisation for tradenomi and BBA students in Finland.

What we do

Events

We organise events for our members and, together with other student associations, for all students in Rovaniemi. Some events happen every year:

  • Koskenlasku – in autumn, together with RovIO
  • Haalarinkastajaiset – the event where first-year students take their overalls into use
  • Sitsit – academic dinner parties with singing and their own etiquette. If you have never been to one, this is the Finnish student tradition worth trying first.

Tickets are usually sold through Kide.app. Event dates are announced on our events page and on Instagram.

Advocacy

We represent students in questions concerning teaching and study arrangements. If something in your studies has gone wrong or you feel you have been treated unfairly, write to edunvalvonta@rotta-ry.fi. Messages are handled confidentially. You are welcome to write in English.

Who is who: ROTTA, ROTKO and Tradenomiopiskelijat

Three organisations, and they are easy to mix up:

  • ROTTA – us. The association for business administration students in Rovaniemi.
  • Tradenomiopiskelijat – the national organisation for tradenomi and BBA students, of which ROTTA is a local association. You may still hear its former name, TROL.
  • ROTKO – the student union of Lapland UAS, representing all students at the university. ROTKO and ROTTA are separate, we are not part of each other, but we work together.

Joining

You join by becoming a member of Tradenomiopiskelijat, the national organisation for all tradenomi and BBA students in Finland. ROTTA is its local association in Rovaniemi. Once you are a student member, you are automatically a member of ROTTA as well – there is no separate ROTTA membership fee.

  1. Fill in the form at asiointi.tradenomi.fi/liity. You need a Finnish personal identity code (henkilötunnus) to join – the form asks for it. The form itself is in Finnish.
  2. Choose ROTTA as the association that recommended you
  3. That is it – you are now a member of both

Membership includes legal advice, salary guidance, career coaching, travel and accident insurance, and member discounts. The first membership tier is free for the first 18 months, and membership fees paid during your studies are reimbursed after you graduate. Current prices are listed on the Tradenomit website.

Our events are almost always open to students from every field, not only to our members. Members usually get a lower price, but you do not need to be a member to come along.

Membership itself is arranged through Tradenomiopiskelijat. Joining requires a Finnish personal identity code (henkilötunnus), which exchange students usually do not have, so membership is in practice meant for degree students. If you are unsure, check the criteria directly with Tradenomiopiskelijat. You are welcome at our events either way, whether you are a member or not.

Overalls

ROTTA overalls are yellow. Student overalls are a Finnish tradition: you collect embroidered patches on them from events, partners and friends, and you wear them throughout your studies. Ordering starts with a fitting at our office. See the overalls page for details.
